| The
Drakensberg mountain range,
shared between South Africa
and Lesotho has a population,
which was estimated at 204
reproductive couples and
224 juveniles, covering
a surface area of 35000
km2 at more than 1800 m
above sea level. Of this
population 122 couples would
correspond to Lesotho and
the rest to South Africa.

Where
to see the Bearded Vulture
in South of Africa:
Drakensberg
Mountain range.-
This extends along the mountain
strip in the form of a wall,
along 1,000 kilometres through
the provinces between South
Africa and Lesotho. It has
magnificent landscapes and
the summits exceed 3000
m. They stand out for the
observation of the bearded
vulture in the Royal Natal
National Park, Giant’s
Castle and the Sani pass,
a mountain pass at 2377
mm, which connects Lesotho
and South Africa. |

Golden Gate Highlands National
Park.- This is located
in the north-east of the Free
State of Orange in the foothills
of the mountain range of Drakensberg.
The red-coloured sand stone formations
stand out with high mountains
in the background, which, in winter,
may be covered with snow. Bearded
vultures, Verreaux eagles (Aquila
verreauxii), bald ibis (Geronticus
calvus) can be observed among
the 160 species of birds registered
in the park.. |
