Innovative Experiment

he creation and promotion of the Peña Montañesa Refuge is one of the fruits of the Borda Project, whose main objective is to foster initiatives that harmonise rural development and the conservation of the natural heritage of the Pyrenees. The people responsible for this project, the Foundation for the Conservation of the Bearded Vulture (FCQ) and the Town Council of Pueyo de Araguas, have worked with enthusiasm and determination from the start, in the year 2000, to reach the ambitious objective, which they had laid down.

The creation of interpreted paths, the environmental education activities and the urban area actions and heritage elements (hermitages, walls,…) have been some of the most significant actions to date.

Another step forward in this Project is the creation of the Peña Montañesa Nature Refuge. This is an innovative figure based on the consensus between the local people and the administrations and its main objective is the conservation of the environment, fostering sustainable development, environmental education and the correct management of the territory.
