Actions carried out

he execution of these measures has contributed to getting to know the species and conserving it better, though specific actions and their relative results.

We will highlight the following:

1) MONITORING THE REPRODUCTIVE UNITS:
Thanks to this, a more accurate knowledge is had of the annual reproduction result in Aragon since 1994, and it can be concluded that more than half the reproductive units are not successful in reproduction. This detailed monitoring has enabled us to identify the causes of some failures in the reproduction, enabling measures to be established to improve this parameter, introducing the necessary conservation measures.
Some of these measures have been the surveillance of nests, the rescue of unfeasible lays (three chicks successfully released between 1995 and 2003) or the regulation of the hunting activities in certain critical areas.
2) RADIO MARKING:
Individualised monitoring of bearded vulture specimens, by radio marking specimens, which makes it possible to know aspects of the biology, use of the space and causes of mortality detected for the species (38% poisoning, 26% overhead cables, 21% shooting).
3) CENSUS:
Simultaneous census in the whole Pyrenean mountain range, which make it possible to establish the annual population and its fluctuations (472 specimens for the year 2003).
4) FEEDING POINTS:
Creation of a network of specific feeding points for the species by the Government of Aragon, which provide the population with controlled food in the winter season. Currently, a total of 10 supplementary feeding points are supplied.
5) MORTALITY TRANSMITTERS:
Actions against the illegal use of poisons and marking the bearded vulture specimens with mortality transmitters.
6) MODIFICATION OF OVERHEAD CABLES:
Evaluation of overhead cables within the application scope of the Plan, which has given rise to the modification and correction of 75 overhead cables and the installation of bird-protectors, as well as the an agreement being signed with ENDESA and the Spanish Electricity Board (REE) to study and modify dangerous overhead cables for birds.
7) SIGNATURE OF AGREEMENTS:
Signature of agreements with social groups whose activities could cause problems for the species during the reproductive period.
8) PROTECTION OF THE HABITAT:
Actions aimed at the legal protection of the habitat of the species, related to the declaration of Special Bird Protection Zones.
9) EXTENSION OF THE DISTRIBUTION AREA:

Installation of decoys in the Natural Park of Moncayo and the Maestrazgo of Teruel as a measure to provoke the natural extension of the distribution area of the species.
